‘CLOAKED’ #productiondesign #conceptart #setdec #propdressing

And with this creation the creative process of filmmaking showed itself in all it’s glory, fuelling my passion to learn and understand better.

In this short-film, written by Ketan Majmudar … I got involved very early in the process – with some concept art -to get this vision into production. Developing and visualising a fictive story world.

And it never fails to amaze me – how many month later in the realisation of the project – these early discussion and visions shine through. Here the futuristic troglodyte with reference to the hermit … didn’t look too far from early conceptions.

With script and some visualisations in place, Ket and I pondered over locations ( winter 2021) and eventually with some additional husslers and support: we secured a license to shoot in the very King Arthur’s cave, near Gloucester – with other suitable settings for this dystopian tale.

Costume design handed over to the maker Amelia, props created, actor and crew booked this story came to be.

Learning more about the challenges shooting a shortfilm without dialogue and with so much more focus on visuals and sound… Exploring the (s)hero’s journey … Is there a threat and monster? Fears and human experience wrapped in a tale, the essence of my passion for #storytelling.

Imagining a possible dystopian future and storyworld – not too hard to imagine, but a production design delight to fuse past and future in this story.

See here for the final version, (which shows its budget restraint) and the challenge of non-verbal storytelling … this story hasn’t finished yet … just yet…
